Although you can contact a funeral director before the death certificate is issued it is important to register the death as soon as possible. Take the death certificate along with the birth certificate of the deceased (if available) and the marriage certificate (if appropriate) or certificate of civil partnership. You should also take the deceased’s medical card to the registrars. (If you cannot find any of these documents still proceed with the registration) In Scotland a death can be registered at any registry office.
Here follows a list of registry offices in Glasgow and the surrounding areas. Call them or check below to establish their opening hours and whether you need to make an appointment in order to register the death.
The registrar will ask you for the person’s maiden name if applicable, date and place of birth, last occupation and that of their spouse, the date of birth of any surviving partner and whether they were in a receipt of a state pension or any other public funds.
